Walter Pincus in the WaPo reports: "Director of National Intelligence John D. Negroponte, who had been rumored to be going over to the State Department as deputy secretary, said last week that he plans to remain in his current position through the end of the Bush administration."

My guess is he's cleaning out the desk right now or should be.
